Text: Osage Planting Song
I have made a footprint, a sacred one.
I have made a footprint, through it the blades push upward.
I have made a footprint, through it the blades radiate.
I have made a footprint, over it blades float in the wind…

Notes
This poem is a translation by Francis La Flesche of the women’s initiation rite in the Osage tribe.  The women were responsible for planting, cultivating and harvesting corn.
