Notes
Something terrible happened in Africa; no rain fell. The lakes dried up, the rivers disappeared, and the animals had no water. The animals come together and try dancing to build a well. But Hamba the wise tortoise explains that the water is under the earth and he dug down deep to create the well. Despite the trickery of Shulo the hare to steal the water, Hamba prevails, and the animals dance in joy that their well is saved. The piece includes “The Animals’ Dance Song” and “Shulo’s Song” (adapted from a Chindau folk song.)
